The enantiodivergent synthesis of enterolactones by controlling epimerization at the α- or β-position is described. The cover art expresses that this work builds on the findings of mechanistic studies to elucidate the process of selective epimerization of cis-2,3-bis(hydroxymethyl)-γ-butyrolactone at the α- or β-position to generate both enantiomers of enterolactones.
