Layered Perovskite Oxyiodide with Narrow Band Gap and Long Lifetime Carriers for Water Splitting Photocatalysis

The highly polarizable iodide endows Bi3Ba2Nb2O11I, a layered Sillén–Aurivillius oxyiodide, with both a wider range of visible light absorption owing to the elevated O-2p VBM and a carrier lifetime longer than that of the chloride or bromide counterparts, enabling the oxyiodide to function as a stable O2 evolution photocatalyst in Z-scheme water splitting.
